| Fornham St Martin is a thriving village adjacent to Bury St Edmunds and provides a green lung transition to the striking rural landscape of the Lark Valley. Fornham St Genevieve was plucked from the Fornham Hall estate and only the ancient church tower remains. The estate development was strongly influenced by the great English landscape architects Humphrey Repton & Capability Brown Fornham Hall was occupied by the British Army during WW2, and the grounds used for tank maintenance and training. Later on Italian prisoners of war lived at the Hall whilst they worked on local farms in support of UK food production More recently the land was farmed, and now has development permission for leisure facilities including holiday accomodation and golf. The old stable block has been converted into private housing, with magnificent views, while Ducksluice Farm barns, bungalow and walled garden are being converted into a significant residential property Sadly the parkland owner Property Recycling Group plc will not allow any public access - it would be wonderful for the community to be able to share in the enjoyment of our historic, architectural and landscape heritage | One of the most significant battles in the history of England took place in Fornham Park and the surrounding area in 1173. Scribes of the time variously estimated that between 3000 and 10000 souls were slaughtered and lie beneath the fields, woodland and ditches. A magnificent sword and other artefacts can be seen in the Moyses Hall Museum | |||||
